City of Red Bank, TN
The picturesque city of Red Bank is located not far from Chattanooga. It's an independently run city with its own police department, post office, fire station, and other municipality services. Part of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Area, Red bank is located just north of Downtown Chattanooga and South West of Hixson, Red bank has become a popular place to live due to it's proximity to North Shore and Downtown Chattanooga
When the post office was established in 1881, the city was named Red Bank because its original name "Pleasant Hill" was already taken in Cumberland County, TN. In 1955 the towns of Red Bank and White Oak became incorporated as one city of "Red Bank - White Oak". In 1966, the White Oak name was dropped for simplicity and the current Red Bank name was formed. One can still see remnants of the White Oak community at White Oak Park and you can still see the White Oak sign on Midvale Ave by the train tracks.
The city serves as the home of the Lions, the 2001 TSSAA Class V-A State Football Champions, as well as the hub for numerous neighborhood churches and community events. The Pulitzer Prize winners Bill Dedman and Wendell Rawls, Jr. are notable residents of Red Bank.
